Article 1 - The World of “D&M”

Today we will be discussing the world of D&M, its intricacies, and themes. There's a lot going on in the story behind the cards, if you’d like to familiarize yourself with the overall lore, there’s a section on our website dedicated to just that!

THEMES & AESTHETICS

The main themes of D&M are Dark Medieval Fantasy and is inspired by varying cultures and religions across the world. It goes a bit deeper when we account for the themes of each of the expansions. “The Beginning” is the core set so to speak, showcasing the various creatures, characters, Majiks, Objects, and locations in the world. “War” is themed after the First War, a battle between the Light and Ehtrae that concludes semi-positively. There are new Equipment Objects and Battlefields giving players more immersion into the game. “Evolution” is the aftermath of the First War, a time where creatures evolve, gaining Abilities from other Elements and Types. “Glimpse of Tomorrow” is the Final Chapter in the Genesis Arc and gives a small tease of what’s to come in the next Arc. New characters are introduced and the power level is balanced across the board, allowing for any Deck to be the strongest!

CHARACTERS

There are many characters in D&M, and you can play as all of them, from the Celestials to the Titled creatures in the world! In the TCG these cards are usually costly, but very strong in terms of their roles in the world.

Some examples of these playable characters — Gabriel, the first angel, has the effect of searching for an angel, much like how he called upon the help of Nahaliel in the lore. Dartel, the poisonous prince, has the Ability to poison creatures. Dartel’s father, the Terror of the Trees, built a pact with the Tree-folk for protection, and his card reflects that.

Now, sometimes you’ll come across multiple characters sharing the same name, and that’s totally okay, these are just the many different forms or evolutions that show growth in skills for that character. The most noticeable ones are the Children of the Creators, where they grow, and age, and get stronger with each iteration. You can usually spot the difference by the way the title is given to a creature card.

For creatures with multiple titles, the name would be written like this: “Mercury, Child of the Creators”.

For creatures with a singular title, the name would be written like this: “Zax - Blacksmith of Ghul”.

MULTIVERSAL CHARACTERS

There are characters that don’t or shouldn’t exist in D&M, yet they do, usually as part of a collaboration, like Hemlocke, the humanoid-lizard assassin that sends himself to universes beyond. These characters are released as promos first, then reprinted at a reasonable time for ease of access to players. They are also a bit rare, and a surprise to the inhabitants of the world of D&M.

REFERENCE OF MAJIKS

Some Majik cards are Spells Cast in Lore, and these are littered throughout, showing dynamically, things that happened in lore. Like “Corruption”, which is a spell that takes control of a creature, the spell Ehtrae used to control Mercury. Another example would be “The Rain That Followed”, a phenomena that occurred on the last day of the First War. It protects creatures from Majik Spells, and heals the Caster.

IMPORTANT OBJECTS

There are many important objects in the world of D&M. Some belong to characters, some are integral to the world itself, and some are the first of their kind. Just like the Characters, these objects are usually costly, and pretty strong. Some of these objects include: The First Sword, a fleshy weapon created by Ehtrae to initiate her plans; The Krystal of Memories, the device that holds the integrity of the universe; Silent Wails, a cursed sword owned by Lan-Yei, it works in tandem with Lan-Yei, making him a formidable foe.

LOCATIONS

Where does one battle? On a Battlefield of course! Many locations exist in D&M, and are totally accessible! Each location does a range of different things, from giving an elemental boost to creatures to searching your Deck for cards. Some Battlefields are focused around elements and/or type rather than theme, but the themed ones give more bang for your buck so to speak.

An example of an element focused battlefield would be “Her Brilliant Skies”. It gives Light creatures a small buff.

An example of a type focused battlefield would be “Grassy Plains”. It provides a buff to both Human and Butterfly creatures.

An example of a theme focused battlefield would be “Fields of War”. It forces creatures to attack, and when they’re slain, the owner loses LP.
