Playtesting Update 2

The grand start to Run 6! New updates to Playtest cards, new updates to rules, and a new deck for our playtesters to pilot. This time around, it will be Stargazers and Cult of Ghul, piloted by Bunni Meadows and Nicholas Derosby, respectively.

10/23/25 Bunni Meadows v Violet Meadows

Stargazers vs Treefolk

It was a really fun matchup, the play style of the Treefolk was defensive in such a way that Bunni had to learn a different approach to beating the Treefolk.

Notable Plays

  • Violet Called 2 Ancient Trees to create an incredible wall.

  • In order to break violet's strong defense, Bunni forced the negates of both trees, using cards that target and by attacking the trees. It was an eventful turn for sure.

Stargazers vs Wolves

The wolves were meant to swarm and they honestly underperformed, which was unexpected. It may have just been the matchup. Wolves could keep up with Stargazers, but they couldn’t pick back up once their were stunted.

Stargazers vs Scorpions

This matchup was incredibly fun! Not only was it fun, but it was challenging for both sides of the matchup. Stargazers almost lost, but managed to get the win with burn damage. Scorpions have shown to be pretty strong especially with their venomous ability.

Rule Clarification

Venomous is at the end of the Damage Calculation Step of the Combat Step. Eg. A creature with 2 PWR and Venomous 2 (Creature A) attacking a creature with 3 PWR (creature B). The creatures clash, with creature a dealing 2 DMG and creature b dealing 3 DMG. The player that controls creature a takes 1 DMG in Reflective Damage, and creature b is left with 1 PWR. Now, at the end of the Damage Calculation Step, Venomous 2 affects creature b, annihilating it.

There may be changes to cards in the “Unity Aggro”, specifically potentially adding an ability to shorten effect text. It is currently being discussed.

10/26/25 Nicholas Derosby v Violet Meadows

Cult of Ghul vs Treefolk

Treefolk suffers from an issue that can easily be remedied with a quick deck update. It plays defensively really well, but it needs a win-con or at least some form of offensive strategy.

Birds Swarm vs Cult of Ghul

Birds were okay, but this matchup was not in their favor. They struggled with overly strong creatures, things above 6 PWR.

Overall Thoughts

Generic search cards may be rewritten to be specific, we are unsure if this is a solid move or not, but we will keep an eye on things first before making any serious changes. These cards allow a player to search for any creature of a specific element, and we find this might be too strong, and may need to water it down a bit, going from specific element to types of creatures in those elements.

10/30/25 Nicholas Derosby v Violet Meadows

Cult of Ghul vs Priests

The start of the game was very intense with Violet consistently gaining LP, even at one point hitting 56 LP. It was a short-lived lead as Nicholas simply overran the priests with one of their ace cards Sorcerers Amulet. Although the Priests fit the lore, if a Deck simply does nothing, then it will most likely lose. Another Deck with a need for a win-con of some kind beyond a great gap in LP.

Sorcerers Amulet has been added to the “Trailblazer” list. A list of cards we’re gonna keep an eye on, as they’re usually very strong and have heavy impact on the game. These cards receive a star upon the next playtest print run.

Cult of Ghul vs Wolves

This game was fun, and both decks performed very well. This was a very good matchup for the Wolves since the Cult of Ghul struggles with aggro builds, especially “swarm aggro”, and “beat-stick aggro”. This game was a solid test of “Unity Aggro” with Wolves, since the Deck has struggled to get a win up until this point.

Cult of Ghul vs Bears

The game was intense, but without the Prince of the Bears and Armor of the Bears , the bear deck doesn’t do much and gets overwhelmed easily. That was the case in this matchup as Nicholas Casted a bolt spell and annihilated the armor, making the prince unable to contend with the onslaught the Nicholas had ready to go. Nicholas agreed that the bears need something to give them that push they need. There are options to remedy the archetype and Deck, we’re just not sure of which option to take.
